Monday 26th May is a Bank Holiday, and so the University will be closed and the Final Major Project deadline will be on Tuesday 27th May at 10am instead.

1st Year - Open Project

Final Submission deadline is Monday 26th May at 4pm in CA316. Sketchbook and backup work should be placed in the plastic crate/box that will be put in the room on the day marked 1st years and digital files placed in the 1st year folder on the hard drive connected to the computer which is being used to project (it will be clearly marked!). Work submitted after 4pm will be given 0% in line with the Universities Submission Procedures.

2nd Year - Personal Project

Final Submission deadline is Monday 26th May at 4pm in CA316. Thursday 5th June - End of year show - Create08

There is a lot of preparation to do with regards to the end of year show which you are all invited to and have been given projects to complete such as generating graphics and printing artwork for Create08. Many hands make light work!

Once you have submitted your final projects on May 26th you will have just under 2 weeks to prepare or revisit any previous work for the end of year show taking place on the evening of the 5th June.

I (Jason, Award Tutor) will make a showreel of the best 1st & 2nd year work for the show. Submissions for inclusion into the show will be accepted in CA315 on Mon 2nd June Only as we will be marking your work up to this date.

Work will not be showcased if not handed in. For more info on the show please read the 3rd years poster.

Thursday 5th June - End of Year Show - Create08

Once you have submitted your final projects on May 26th you will have just less than 2 weeks to prepare your work for the end of year show on the evening of the 5th June. This may call for the revision of previous work to add any finishing touches, printing out and mounting artwork, generating director showcases or keynotes on your computers, creating DVD’s or producing presentations using any other digital medium that you deem relevant to represent your work.

Work will be presented in CA316, CA317 on computers and twenty 8×4 display boards, on the plasma screens in the entrance to the Atrium and projected in the Cinema and Theatre.

Please speak to your tutors to discuss what the most suitable way to display your work will be. In addition think about who you wish to invite to the evening event such as relatives or prospective employers and again discuss this with your tutors.

I (Jason, Award Tutor) will be putting together a showreel of clips and Artwork from all 3rd year students. If you wish to include any previous work then please hand this to me by 4pm on Monday 2nd June in CA315 (not before as we will be marking your work up to this point).

Unfortunately the interviews planned by Moseley Webb have been postponed again and again in Emma’s absence who is still very unwell at the moment. They have informed Jason that they are far too busy to spend 3 days interviewing all the students, and so have only committed to the morning session on the 12th May. They have selected the following students for that morning session:-

Renato Pequito which all of you know in 3rd Year Design For Media has focused on a magazine design as his final major project for the year. As he states himself in his poster, it will highlight the talent of the students studying at the ATRiuM, with separate sections on each course.

It’s a very good opportunity for you to showcase your best piece(s) of work, as they will be displayed in the end of year graduation show for everyone to see, including professionals.

If you want to take part in this great concept, send your work or pictures of it at yourshowcase@gmail.com

Please make sure you send a few (3 or 4 or more if you want) high quality pictures of your work (at 300dpi if possible), so that they look great when printed for the magazine!

If for any reason you don’t want to reveal your email address, feel free to send me the material and I will pass it over to Renato.

The sooner you send the work the better, that way Renato can start working on the layout for the magazine.

Tell others as well in your class who may be interested in taking part.

This year all design and architectural technology students will be given the opportunity to have 250 personal postcards printed for the small cost of £10.00 for your distribution at the final show.

The postcards are A6 (portrait or landscape) in size and are to have an example of your work on the front in colour, with your details and a short write up on the back, in black.

Deadline for the imagery and text is 29th April 2008 and all images and text must be clearly labelled with your name and department.

There is a maximum of 120 words on the back with a telephone number and e-mail address. NO Addresses please.

All images are to be:-

• 105mm x 148mm
• CMYK
• *.TIF File extension
• 300 pixels per inch

Money and Files need to be given to your head of course by no later than 29th April April 2008.

This is a great opportunity for you to promote your skills at a very reasonable cost. This offer is optional.

For those of you who don’t know, the interviews that were set to be happening on Thursday have been cancelled.

Interviews are now going to take place on the 12th of May and onwards.

Some have been appointed a time for the 12th of May, so make sure to come by and check to see when you’re scheduled for. If I find out any further details I will pass it on to you.

If you are a student who was unfortunate to have his or her presentation during Monday or Tuesday you will need to come in and speak to either Mark, Jason or Chris about it so that you can have your presentation shown.

I’ve spoken with Jason who is taking over the organising of  the mock interviews due to Emma’s absence, and he’s informed me that on Thursday 17th he will be able to give us further details with regards to scheduled times, dates and location for students from each course of the Design department. Be sure to prepare for the interviews and bring with you examples of your work, as a show reel, a sketchbook, etc.

Furthermore, for Design For Media students, the date scheduled to present your pitch is Monday 21st April, in order to show your work in progress for your Final Major Project and give other students and your tutors a chance to give you feedback before you begin working methodically on the project to get it finished.

As a reminder, I just want to tell you that the Final Major Project is an Open Brief, in other words as with the D&AD & YCN competitions, you can produce your own project and in effect your own brief. Let your creativity loose and produce anything you want, having seen your previous work, I can’t wait to see what will be your latest outcome!

Jason’s confirmed that the deadline is the last day of the week before he needs to mark everyone’s assignments before the end of summer term on 6th June.
