How To Guides (GlamLife, Email, Blackboard, OPAC, FINDit, etc)

<div>Hi everyone, I’m providing some information for you to help you with some of the services the University provides.

First of all, I think it’s important to mention that there is a service called the Education Drop In Centre, which is available in the Library to help you with your studies. All you need to do is go by the Drop In Centre in the Library in the Atrium, or call them and book some time so they can check your essay, etc. Check this link http://edic.glam.ac.uk/ and this flash guide for more, http://lcss.glam.ac.uk/media/files/documents/2008-09-18/purple.swf

If you have a laptop that you bring into University and you want to connect it to the internet, you can access the SIAN network (Student Internet Access Network).

A lot of you have told me that you have not been checking your student email accounts. I’m providing below a simple solution to receive your student account emails without needing to log in to check them.

1. Sign in to your student email account from GlamLife (http://glamlife.glam.ac.uk)

2. Click Settings at the top of the page, and open the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab.

3. Enter the email address to which you’d like your messages forwarded.

4. Select archive University of Glamorgan Mail’s copy.

5. Click Save Changes.

That’s it! You can test it by sending an email to your student email account and seeing if it comes to your personal email account.

Please remember the following:

One of the mechanisms employed by the University to ensure that passwords remain secure is to have them automatically expire for all users every 90 days.

If you are unable to use your account, it may be possible that your account has expired. I’ve checked some of the students’ accounts during one the lectures, and apart from one instance, everyone seemed to be fine.

If you can’t log in to your account, either at home or on one of the computers on campus, don’t try to login more than three times. The reason is that if you do try that, if unsuccessful, your account will be locked for 30 minutes.

You will need to go http://ssaa.glam.ac.uk/ and select the second option from the list (My account is already active, but I need to change my password). Click on next and follow the guidance provided on the page. You will then be able to create a new password for yourself.

Once you have done that, you will be able to access the University’s IT services such as Blackboard or your student email (http://glamlife.glam.ac.uk).

If you need any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me or IS Support via email or telephone, at ISSupport@glam.ac.uk and +44 (01443) 48 2882.

If there is anything you want me to clarify, or something you want me to explain that I haven’t already covered above, feel free to drop me an email.

Warm regards,

Luke

  1. Unfortunately the “Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab.” does not have the option of “enabling IMAP” or at least it is invisible.

I am wondering how do the professors check the emails from outlook express or any other mail client.

  2. IMAP is currently not available for students using Glamlife. It may become available in the future.

Professors and Lecturers check their emails using various means such as online webmail, in a similar fashion that you do, and also through mail clients. Currently, the staff email uses a different system that can be used with the University’s other implemented systems.
